There Is A Reason

Written by: Andrew Osenga and Randall Goodgame

Appears on: Overdressed

Lyrics:

Late at night I wonder why, sometimes I wonder why
Sometimes I’m so tired I don’t even try
Seems everything around me fails
But I hold onto the promise that there is a reason

Late at night the darkness makes it hard to see
The history of the saints who’ve gone in front of me
Through famine, plague, and disbelief
His hand was still upon them
Cause there is a reason, there is a reason

He makes all things good
He makes all things good
There’s a time to live a time to die
A time for wondering, to wonder why
Cause there is a reason, there is a reason
There is a reason

I believe that God who sent who sent His only Son
To walk upon this world and give His life for us
With blood and tears on a long dark night
And know that he believed there is a reason
There is a reason

He makes all things good
He makes all things good
There’s a time to live a time to die
A time for wondering, to wonder why
Cause there is a reason, there is a reason
There is a reason

The lonely nights the broken hearts
The widow’s mite in the rich man’s hand
And the continent whose blood becomes a traitor
A child afraid to close their eyes
The prayers that seem unanswered
There is a reason, there is a reason

He makes all things good
He makes all things good
There’s a time to live a time to die
A time for wondering, to wonder why
Cause there is a reason, there is a reason
There is a reason

I was wondering the same thing myself. I came to this website to try and answer that very question. Here’s my best guess: Africa? or India? Africa makes the most sense to me. I thought maybe this line could be referring to the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Does anyone know for sure what “the continent whose blood becomes a traitor” is actually referring to?
    Thanks,

    Tina,

Check out the Overdressed LiveBlog up in the right hand corner of this page. It talks about all the different songs on the Overdressed album and confirms that this line is referring to the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

  4. Yeah, that makes sense. I have asked Andy and Randall to come by and respond, too…

  5. Randall says:

Hey everyone! Thanks for the question. Funny that I’m beating Andy to the punch, because he wrote that line, but I can confirm that he was writing about the sinister nature of AIDS and how your blood and your body – which is suppose to work to keep you alive – suddenly turns on you and works to kill you.

    Thanks for listening well.
