Forget What You Know

Lyrics:

My friend why do you whip yourself
With the leather of your life
Why do your memories build like
Poison in your mind

You’re re-running the mistakes (of your mind)
In the theater of your mind
Hoping that there’ll be
A happily ever after this time

Let go
Let go
Let go
And forget what you know

You fear you’ve walked too far
In the hemlock forest and you are lost
But what error could you invent
With more power than the cross

Let go
Your sin is not an axe
Let go
That can fell the sacred tree
Let go
Your regret is not a net
Let go
That can dredge the forgetting sea

A wise man once told me
When I was dying just the same
The past can be like sidewalk chalk
If you will dance and pray for rain

One Response to Forget What You Know

  1. Chris Hubbs says:

This song is about understanding the fullness of God’s mercy and grace in what Jesus did on the cross. It’s about believing in Jesus’ sacrifice and not holding onto the sins from the past that have already been forgiven.

“Let go and forget what you know”…is talking specifically about forgetting about your forgiven sins.

“Your regret is not a net that can dredge the forgetting sea”…refers to Micah 7:19 where it says that God will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea and remember them no more. Just because you can’t seem to let go of what you’ve done in the past, doesn’t mean that God is going to retrieve your sin from the sea he cast it in and hold you accountable for it once it’s been forgiven.
