The Rich Song

Lyrics:

Whatcha been doing today?
‘Cause I’ve been thinking about you
Just heard some news that set my mind to wandering
And I need to hear your voice

Are you out on the plains?
Burning your feet on the ground
Out where no one even knows your name
Seventy miles out of town

Cause we miss you
Do you miss us?
What is the language
With which these words I can trust?
That I thank my God
Every time
I remember you

Whatcha been thinking about?
Cuz I’ve been thinking about life
And how nothing can escape the governing of God
Still somehow that just doesn’t comfort me tonight
I still need to hear your voice

Now I hear you
Do you hear me?
What medium is there
That I can use to make you see?

Bending down to help the flower dry with poverty
Helping it to understand its inheritance
How I remember life so bright
Every time I close my eyes
I can see you

Brother you made it
Brother you made it
Brother you made it home

One Response to The Rich Song

  1. Chris Hubbs says:

    From Derek:

The last time I saw Rich was at the Cornerstone festival. It was hard to not get right into the spontaneity that surrounded him. A perfect example of it occurred just before our set that night. I was stressing out about the fact that I didn’t have nearly enough material to play when Rich very casually suggested that he could come and play some if I needed him to. Being up there with Rich that night filled me with a feeling that I can’t really relay. I wish I could’ve told Rich then how much I loved him. “

    From Cliff:

“Rich’s death is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with, and one of the strangest things I’ve ever tried to understand. I know that God is God – He is sovereign, and He’s all I can trust in. Rich was the greatest influence in my faith, my philosophies, my musical vision… everything. I was blessed to be able to spend some time one-on-one with my mentor. No one could ever measure how much my generation and I will miss Rich.”

    From the AP Report:

Associated Press LOSTANT, Ill. — Rich Mullins, a best-selling contemporary Christian singer who was killed in an automobile accident, scored his greatest hit with his song “Our God Is An Awesome God,” sung in churches across America. “Richard was very well respected because he lived his beliefs and was a humble man,” said Jim Dunning Jr., Mullins’ manager. Mullins, 41, was run over and killed by a tractor-trailer Friday after being flipped out of a sports utility vehicle that went out of control outside Lostant, a town about 75 miles southwest of Chicago. Mullins and singer Mitchell McVicker were heading to Wichita, Kan., for a benefit concert scheduled for Saturday night when the accident happened. It wasn’t clear who was driving. McVicker, 24, was reported in critical condition yesterday. Mullins, born in Richmond, Ind., was both a songwriter and singer, whose first album, “Rich Mullins,” was released in 1986. He went on to record six other albums for Reunion Records, a division of Arista. His latest, “A Liturgy, A Legacy and a Ragamuffin Band,” was released in 1993. The singer had recently signed a contract with Myrrh Records and was to begin work in October on a new album, Dunning said. By far, Mullins’ biggest recording was 1989′s “Awesome God.” He was also known for his collaboration with Amy Grant, for whom he wrote several songs, including “Sing Your Praise to the Lord.” He also wrote for Debbie Boone.
