the songs of Overdressed: Trouble

what you already knew…

Track Number: 1
Author(s): Derek Webb

what you probably didn’t know…

…Derek actually wrote the chorus and first verse of this song for his first record (She Must and Shall Go Free) but it didn’t end up getting recorded (obviously).

…Derek was flipping through an old notebook when he started writing for Overdressed and discovered the song and thought it would be a great fit for the record, so he finished it up.

…Cliff was the one who had the idea to pull the word “overdressed” out of the first pre-chorus and use it for the title.

  1. Travis says:

The moment I first heard this song (admittedly, several weeks ago) I thought that it sounded straight out of the SMASGF sessions….

Good to know I am not crazy.

  2. Jim says:

ditto that Trivis. it had that SMASGF sound to it completely! I hunted through all the CD’s actually looking for it (or something similarly named) because I was CERTAIN I had heard it before. Thought maybe he’d taken an old tune and put new words around it.

  3. Manders says:

    1. It does totally have that SMASGF thing going for it, and that is definitely not bad. I love the Andy vocal on it, too.
    2. Has anyone else noticed that it’s “my sister” (singular), “my brothers” (plural)? As in, Danielle and the six other Caedmon’s guys? (Is that the case, or am I reading too much into this?)

  4. Don says:

    Manders,

You may be right. When I saw them in concert last year, he pointed to the band when he sang “with friends like these, who needs the police.” You may have discovered this already since your post is from ’07. Peace.
