As we announced to you last week, Caedmon’s Call will do pre-orders of Overdressed in two weeks on caedmonscall.com. I think that’s awesome. But, as a Caedmon’s Call fan who also happens to love Jeremy Casella’s music, I think that they should take a page from the playbook of their former opening act and do as he did: if you pre-ordered his latest release, Recovery, you got a digital download of the entire at the time of purchase. I have zero idea whether or not Caedmon’s plans this for Overdressed or not, but … consider this a petition to request that. I know it costs more in the programming side of the house, but I know that it’s feasible, and I have to think that it’s good for the fans.
If you agree, comment here or write it up on your own Weblog and link to us. Have your voice heard.
[And yes, I really am operating in a vacuum here---I haven't asked the band about this, and I haven't talked to Bryan, who's certainly more in-the-know on this than I am, about it. But I'm fine with that---and if I look like the big dummy, well, that won't be the first time. But if it goes right, well, in the words of Major Benson Winnifred Payne, "Who's de dummy now?!"]
The dummy is me: I made this petition and didn’t mention pre-orders of Derek’s last album through TheRingingBell.com? Thanks to everyone who already gave me a hard time about this. I will now go listen to “Friends Are Friends Forever” five times straight as penance.
Yes! Dooooooooo it. :D
That is a GREAT idea! Plus the majority of us will buy the album anyway.
Should Caedmon’s Call provide those who pre-order Overdressed (in June) with an immediate download of the album (which doesn’t hit shelves till the end of August)?
[x] Yes
[ ] No
i know this won’t be popular, but i think they should make everyone wait a little longer. 2.5 months is too long for digital music to be on the market and may cut into their sales. despite CC’s loyal and mostly Christian fan base, people who get copies for free will still steal them and not buy the album. i vote they provide a download a few weeks in advance for preorders.
I get your point, but the only people getting the download would be the people who’d already paid … and they don’t have much incentive to then spread those MP3s around for free, do they?
Yes they should.
This is a great idea. I’d do it for sure. Then again, I’ll be pre-ordering no matter what.
Can the download be in FLAC format? Pretty please? :-)
Geof, in my experience MP3s tend to end up on peoples websites and they share with 2 person, and then that person shares with 2 people they know, and you know how this goes. this tends to happen since everyone doesn’t order right away. my point is that you get an “acceptable” loss if you ask for pre-orders on June 15th and then provide the download Aug. 1st (or some date well after the pre-order) since most people will order just in case no one else does.
i’d love to get it early too, but i want the band to do well on this album and be around for another one more. they all have spouses and mortgages and stuff now you know…
that being said, i expect there to be a download offer at some point.
I’d love a download in June, but I understand Old CC Fan’s concerns, so a download in August would be ok too. But June would be better =)
Yeah, I like the idea, but there’s got to be a reason this isn’t done more often. I’m guessing INO won’t let them put up a download until the beginning of August or some such similar date.
And are you quite sure five times is enough, Geof? I was thinking maybe ten times – once for every track on The Ringing Bell? Anyway: Derek – since Geof *obviously* considers you a TOP priority…how about letting ME run the interviews for the next couple of years? I’ll meet you halfway – say, at my grandparents’ house in East Tennessee?
Look at Gaultney trying to muscle in on my territory. ;) When I do these interviews, I go to Derek. Like I will tomorrow. ;)
I wouldn’t mind hearing the album in June when I pre-order. I’m still buying the album. I liked when Derek did it for The Ringing Bell. Digital Dpwnload please!
Old CC Fan,
do you honestly believe album sales will determine if the band is around for one more? i’m surprised they were around for this one.
the people with copies already have been good about not leaking the tracks. some of them just go blabbing all over creation that they in fact do have the album and that it is great.
Scott,
I’m not surprised they are still around. I think they can be around for a long time if they sell records. And despite the kids and other things keeping them busy, I think they WILL stay around (in one form or another) if they can sell records. I’ve been hearing from several of them that they are close to being done since during the production of Share the Well. All of that being said, I hope they stick around and continue to make music. Based on what I’ve heard about the new album, they can still put out quality stuff. I’ve heard that it not only hearkens back to 40 Acres, but is the best album since then. Why am I typing so long on a comment? Some one start a thread about this…
Must.. have… digital download…..
