The State of [caedmonscall.net], May 2007

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Well, in addition to all the CC news, we have some news of our own, as we upgrade things around the site.

  1. Jeff Holland We already hinted at this on Tuesday, but Jeff Holland has been working up a wicked tour database. There’s lots of functionality that I’m sure that he wants to add going forward, but it’s a start. Please provide feedback as you feel led to on this one—we do this for you, so we want to know what you want to see.
  2. Chris Hubbs Chris Hubbs has been doing the grunt work of taking our old song vault into a new, WordPress-powered song vault. All the same content, but in an easier-to-maintain system, which means that we’ll be far more likely to keep it up to date. ;) Kudos to Chris for doing the grunt work.

This brings active cc.net staffing to four. We might have to cut it back to three, though, when we see what Cliff thinks about Chris’s post about various band members. ;)

Please welcome Jeff and Chris to the organization.

Andrew Osenga playing my guitar - Flickr! photo sharing Before I go, let me point to my Flickr photoset of shots taken in studio. My favorite has to be Andrew Osenga playing my grandfather’s Gibson Dove acoustic guitar. My grandfather wanted me to have that guitar after he died, and it’s largely sat in my closet since he died.

When Bryan and I were in Nashville back in October, I off-handedly mentioned the guitar to Andy, who promptly flipped out and wanted to see it. I’ve loaned it long-term to Andrew, who did an excellent job in getting it cleaned up and playable, with help from Todd. I’m just happy that the guitar will get used in some small way to make music that I’ll love and cherish. I think that my grandfather would have liked that.

[Sorry to have taken forever to post that photo, AO. You may now gush about that guitar. ;)]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAEDMON’S CALL ANNOUNCES BIG YEAR WITH NEW ALBUM, NEW LABEL,
AND RETURN OF DEREK WEBB FOR PROJECT AND TOUR

NASHVILLE, TN…May 22, 2007… INO Records’ announces the signing of award-winning Christian group, folk-pop sensation Caedmon’s Call. The group will be releasing their 15th project Overdressed on Aug. 28, and features former member-turned-solo singer/songwriter Derek Webb on the project and upcoming tour.

“It was definitely a no-brainer to record with Derek again, especially when we [Caedmon’s Call] joined INO, which has been Webb’s label for years,” says Cliff Young. “We all sat down one day and thought ‘I wonder what it would be like to make an album together’.” “We have all grown so much over the past six years, and I know for me [and I’m sure the others] it was a natural process to switch to INO and then have Derek re-join us for this project and upcoming tour.

Overdressed is a 12 song cd collection unlike any other Caedmon’s Call record, organically acoustic with emphasis on rhythm while maintaining cleverly-written lyrics. All songs were co-wrote between Andrew Osenga, Randall Goodgame, Derek Webb and Webb’s wife, musician Sandra McCracken.

“The title Overdressed comes from lyrics in the song ‘Trouble,’” says Derek Webb. “It talks about how, if I’m honest, all my best attempts at being good are a real mess. Just like the Garden of Eden, I try to cover myself with so many different things. So, when I’m with Him, I feel so overdressed.”

Formerly with Essential Records, Caedmon’s Call joined the INO roster of artists in 2007. “I have long been an admirer of Caedmon’s Call rich musical legacy,” says president of INO Records Jeff Moseley. “Now with the addition of Derek Webb for this record, it just feels like a natural fit. I am thrilled they are a part of the INO family and that we can share in the future of Caedmon’s Call.”

Caedmon’s Call will head out on a promotional tour in late summer before headlining a Spring tour. These dates will be announced at a later time.

Going on 13 years in the Christian Music Industry, Caedmon’s Call has made the leap from independent act to Christian music mainstay. In 1997, the group’s self-titled debut set a record, selling more units in its first week than any other new contemporary Christian music artist. Caedmon’s Call has launched seven other national releases—40 Acres, Long Line of Leavers, In the Company of Angels, Back Home, In the Company of Angels II – The World Will Sing, Chronicles, Share The Well and the upcoming project Overdressed. Among its accolades are an Album of the Year Dove Award, a Billboard Music Video Award nomination and seven No. 1 radio singles. Caedmon’s Call is an original contributor to City on a Hill, claiming two Special Event Album Dove Awards for its work with the series.

Rumors of a New CC Member Are Rampant

Friday, May 18th, 2007

Okay, okay, okay. We’ve all heard rumors that Caedmon’s Call is about to become an eight-piece. [And if you've not heard the rumors, you must not be on the Rumor Forum.] There’s some speculation that a former member might come back, and while we think that could be pretty freakin’ awesome, I … have a different take.

There’s this one guy who’s been very influential with the band over the past few years. He’s been on the payroll, indirectly. They consult him about stuff way more than they do me. [Hey, jealousy.] They even took him to Ecuador. So, I posit that the new member of Caedmon’s Call will be:

Caedmon’s Call with Bryan Allain

… Bryan Allain.

[And yes, I know that's Mark Polack in the photo. Caedmon's seems to be going through bass players like Spinal Tap went through drummers. And hey, I haven't heard from Doomsday lately ... I hope he didn't spontaneously combust!]

Don’t believe me? He’s already played with the band.

Remember, folks: you heard it here first. Bryan is the new member of Caedmon’s Call.

I will now go light myself on fire.

So, if you’re wondering where Caedmon’s Call landed post-Essential, I think that maybe you have a clue there.

Oh, and … there’s more to come. Fun, exciting developments. More soon.

[We would be remiss if we didn't give Jeff Holland credit for spotting this.]
